The Power of Media

The Pepsi ad taps into man's basic desires by showing them nudity which ignites them to want the women and in the background also want pepsi. Pepsi uses sex to sell there product and it works. Man thinks about sex by watching that ad and since the women are portrayed in a pepsi commercial, that sex leads to buying pepsi. It is a clever way of selling there product.

According to Klosterman, media influences a lot of things in our lives. He is saying that people want there lives to be like the people on television. He was also saying that people love John Cusack but they don't actually love him. They only love him because he reminds them of Lloyed Dobler. So the person they actually love is Lloyd Dobler but indirectly. The media keeps giving us a picture of what a really good lifestyle should look like and people try to get that and the media keeps changing that picture in our head so it is hard to actually keep up for the poeple because after they try so hard for one thing another bling thing comes out and they go for that.

This ad(http://youtube.com/watch?v=IVndvFoQt34) brings coke down to get grab pepsi. This as uses the emotion hate on coke to get pepsi. It shows the kids pays twice as much to get a coke and use the coke to get a pepsi. They are trying to tell us that pepsi is so great that people would do anything to get it. Whenever people buy a can of pepsi they will think about coke and start hating it. This commercial uses our emotions to hate coke whenever we are drinkning pepsi or thinking about pepsi.

Exclusionary Coolness

Klosterman's idea of ''exclusionary cool'' means something that only a few people can possess, if other people possess it too, well than it isn't cool now is it? Klosterman says that people are always trying to find that one thing that nobody else has just so they can be cool, that is exactly what everyone tries to do today.

Today in society, people buy many products just so they can show society they are cool and that you cannot get this but I can. So all of a sudden the other people try to get the same product. Then soon when evrybody has it, it no longer stays cool and by that time a newer product comes out and people pursue to get that product.

At Churchill I see many groups standing around in the hallways who all seem to look alike. Have the same type of clothing on, like they think they are cooler than the other groups. It's like a battle going on between groups to show who can be cooler than who, or who can get the cooler product first.

Personal Response-Trix Commercial 1991

1) The characters represent us in society. The kids are the consumers who represent the buyers of the product, which is us. The lady who is trying to promote Trix Cereal represents a person working for the company. She is playing smart by not giving the free box of Trix to the rabbit but to the kids. The rabbit represents someone who will try to take down there company, he represents a "bad guy".

2) The message being transmitted is that companies try to aim there products on consumers that are not so smart and don't know much about the secrets of the product. The ones that know secrets about the product, they try to take the company down and the companies try to avoid people like that and try not to sell the product to them.

Why is this Soul?

I think that everyone or everything is connected in some random way. So I believe a bit of both. But I don't believe everything happens randomly just because it happens. I think it happens for either a good or bad cause, which then connects to karma. I think things happens due to the actions of others.

The Meaning of, Meaning?

Meaning has many meanings. I think meaning is a way of life. What your life means and what you like to do. Your own thoughts and beliefs. Applicating, communicating and knowing what is right and wrong. Everyone could have a different meaning of themselves because obviously no one is the same.

Why I chose this meaning for meaning is because I think meaning is basically what you do in life, nothing else. The meaning of one-self. One person's own lifestyle. What they choose to do.
